Hitting the bars

If you’re looking for some company for the festivities, head down to any of these Amherst bars.

The Harp Irish Pub
In the spirit of the Patriots going for a sixth Super Bowl win, the Harp will be running their “Blitz for $6” menu during the game. Some of the specials include chili con queso and a pulled pork sandwich. More info on their Facebook page.

Olde Towne Tavern
Head downtown to Olde Towne Tavern and enjoy some free food during the game. OTT bartender Derek Robidoux thinks things are gonna get “pretty crazy” this year.

“We’re giving out some free pizza to our lovely customers hoping everyone has a great time and hoping for a Patriots victory,” Robidoux said. “Then we’ll keep it going all night.”

Rafters Sports Bar & Restaurant
At this family-friendly spot, enjoy the game with their $10 burger and beer special. Get any burger paired with a Hitchcock Brewery Angry Sparrow Pale Ale.

Before and after the game
It’s not all about Tom Brady this Sunday. Enjoy some time with the family, or help out those in need on game day.

Pre-Super Bowl sledding
Start the day off with the kids during a pre-Super Bowl sledding event put on by Amherst Leisure Services as part of Amherst’s annual Winterfest. From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. put on your snow pants and head over to Cherry Hill Golf Course for some free fun in the snow.

Souper Sunday
Often, food pantries have shortages during the months after the holidays. Give back to the community this Super Bowl with donations to Amherst Survival Center. They are accepting all non-perishable soups, for more information go to their website.

And remember, at all costs avoid Southwest Residential Area at the University of Massachusetts Amherst – unless you’re looking for some post-game chaos.
