AMHERST — The youth of Amherst can stay up past their bedtimes tonight. The Amherst-Pelham Regional School district will be closing school tomorrow due to the impending snowstorm.

The call was made earlier this evening by school officials. And they’re not alone — 25 other Hampshire County school districts also cancelled school for Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday for Hampshire County. The warning will be in affect at 7 a.m. tomorrow and will run through 10 p.m. when the snowfall and freezing rain is predicted to slow down.

The alert warns that areas should expect 5 to 8 inches of snow, with the possibility of up to 10 inches. Amherst residents are advised that travel may not be safe and should be careful of ice along with snow.
