Deceased male found at Amherst College


AMHERST – The body of a deceased male was found on the Amherst College campus early Thursday morning, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office.

The case is under investigation. The identity of the man is being determined by authorities and the official cause of death is being handled by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, according to the DA.

“Amherst College Police, Amherst Police, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office are jointly investigating,” Northwestern District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Mary Carey said in an email.

Update 5:10 p.m. EST: 

There has been no foul play suspected nor should there be cause for public concern.

“Authorities have tentatively identified the deceased male found this morning on the Amherst College campus,” according to Carey.

The identity of the male has not yet been confirmed as authorities are trying to get in contact with the family.

Update April 8, 11:10 EST:

According to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, authorities have identified the deceased male as Amherst College sophomore Christopher Collins.
